Cook This Tonight

Summary

• We do not create user accounts or ask you to sign up.
• Saved recipes and edits stay on your device.
• We do not run a Cook This Tonight cloud backup or recipe sync in the current build. Uninstalling the app (or clearing its data) removes those recipes from the device.
• You bring content by paste, the share sheet, or by sharing/pasting a link. When you share a link, we may read that page’s public preview metadata (Open Graph title, description, and image) — the same class of data messaging apps and Apple Notes use for link cards. We do not log into Instagram or use private APIs.
• We do not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs in the current build.
• There are no in-app purchases in the current build.

Data we process

Depending on how you use the app, the following may be involved:

• On-device recipes — titles, ingredients, steps, optional photos, and notes you save. These are stored locally on your device (for example via on-device storage). They are not uploaded to a Cook This Tonight account server or backup service, because this app does not operate one in the current build. Apple or Google may include some app data in a full device backup according to their system settings; that is outside Cook This Tonight’s control and is not the same as an in-app cloud sync. We do not provide cross-device recipe sync in this build.
• Shared content you choose to send — if you paste a caption or use the iOS share extension, the text or link you share is processed on your device to build a cook sheet.
• Public link previews — if you share or paste a web link (for example an Instagram post URL), the app may request that URL over the internet and read publicly available preview tags (title, description, image) so we can fill the cook sheet. That request goes to the site that hosts the link (for example Instagram’s public web servers), not to a Cook This Tonight recipe database. Preview images may be shown from those public URLs. If a page does not expose a useful preview, you can paste the caption instead.
• App updates — we use Expo’s update service to deliver optional over-the-air JavaScript updates to the app. Expo and Apple/Google may process standard technical data needed to deliver those updates.
• Website contact — if you email hello@cookthis.co.uk or support@cookthis.co.uk, we process the content of your message in order to reply.
• Technical data — Apple, Google, Expo (for builds/updates), and our hosting provider may process standard technical logs as part of delivering their services. We do not run our own advertising tracker on this site in the current version.

How we use information

• To turn captions and public link previews you choose into readable ingredients and steps.
• To store and display the recipes you save on your device.
• To respond to support or feedback emails.
• To operate, secure, and improve the app and website (including delivering app updates).

Lawful basis (UK GDPR)

Where UK data protection law applies, we rely on: performing a service you request; our legitimate interests in running a reliable recipe utility app; and, where required, compliance with law. If we ever rely on consent for a new optional feature, we will ask clearly in the app.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. Data may be processed by:

• Apple / Google — App Store / Play distribution
• Expo / hosting providers — app updates and website hosting
• Email providers — if you contact us by email

Retention

On-device recipes remain until you delete them, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Because there is no Cook This Tonight cloud backup in the current build, we cannot restore recipes after uninstall. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any related legal obligations.

Children

The app is a general cooking utility. It is not directed at children under 13. Do not use the app to submit personal information about a child.

Your rights

Depending on applicable law (including UK GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to data portability where it applies. Because recipes live only on your device, many requests are handled by editing or deleting recipes in the app or uninstalling it. For other requests, email hello@cookthis.co.uk.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled personal data, contact us first at hello@cookthis.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by calling 0303 123 1113.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be reflected on this page and, where appropriate, noted in the app.
